Paul David Knight Jr. is charged with attempted first-degree murder.

A man faces attempted murder charges after he placed a gun to another man’s head during a fight Sunday night.
The suspect, Paul David Knight Jr., 31, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and will appear for preliminary hearing March 21. He is being held under $250,000 bond pending that hearing. He could face 15 to 25 years in prison if convicted.
Knight was arrested late Sunday night just before midnight after an incident occurred at a home on Moffitt Drive in Rock Island.
“When I arrived and made contact with Mr. Knight, he was found to be in possession of a handgun,” said sheriff’s deputy Brystol Davis, noting he discovered during his investigation Knight had arrived at the residence looking for Jason Crouch. His reason for looking for Crouch has not been revealed.
“A fight ensued,” Davis reported, noting Crouch suffered injuries in the struggle. “Jason was cut over the left eye and cut under his right eye.”
The attempted murder charge came after the victim described what happened during the fight.
“The gun was placed to Jason’s head and he pushed it away and the handgun discharged,” Davis said of the potentially fatal incident.
Crouch was not hit by the round.
It has not been revealed if Knight squeezed the trigger or if the act of pushing the gun away caused the gun to discharge.
