A man accused of attacking two women with a knife is behind bars and facing a total bond of $2 million for two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
Bobby Ray Graves, Jr., was booked into the Warren County Jail just after midnight Saturday, Feb. 22, after being released from Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He is charged for allegedly attempting to kill Jennifer Campos and Brittany Austin in Rock Island the previous day.
According to the arrest report filed by Warren County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Spencer Pryor, offers responded to an address on Old Rock Island Rd. Friday, Jan. 21, after receiving a call stating Campos’ throat had been cut. Deputies arrived at the scene and spoke with Campos, who reportedly had a large laceration to her throat. She allegedly confirmed Graves had cut her while the two were inside a Nissan Versa belonging to Brittany Austin.
While local deputies were still on the scene with Campos, White County dispatch received a call from Austin, who was at the Walling Family Dental Center just across the Warren-White County line. Austin reportedly stated she had also been cut by Graves, receiving a wound to her right shoulder. After cutting her, Austin alleged Graves told her to keep driving, but she quickly exited the vehicle after arriving at the dental office and went inside, prompting Graves to head toward Powerhouse Rd. on foot. Graves was detained a short time later by White County deputies and, according to a statement from Warren County Sheriff Jackie Matheny Jr. given Friday night, allegedly cut his own throat before being stopped by officers.
Graves’ bond was set for $1 million for each count of attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear in court March 4.
