Swimming season is over, but Gilley Pool is still making waves of improvement at the facility.
Several bids were received by the City of McMinnville to resurface the pool’s water features, and a total of $85,000 was set aside for the project during budget discussions.
The project includes maintenance to the pool, the pool slide’s structure, the frog slide and water play features – the water bucket tree, three mushroom structures, water curtain, two seahorses and eight lemon drops. During these updates, repairs will be made to the structures as needed alongside new paint, primer and top coat where needed.
Of the bids received, Amusement Restoration Company bid $39,725, or $42,725 with an alternate color for the equipment; DWR bid $68,400; Baynum bid $84,370 and Safe Slide Restoration bid $147,260 or $193,506 with an alternate color for the equipment.
Parks and Recreation Director Justin Scott recommended approving Amusement Restoration Company’s bid of $42,725 to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen during its regularly scheduled meeting.
“We haven’t had any of the fiberglass restored by painting and gel coating,” explained Scott. “We have a 21-year-old pool and it was time to bring it back up to speed. Structurally, things are great – we just need a fresh coat of paint.”
Alderman Keri Morton motioned to accept the bid and Alderman Deitra Dunlap seconded. All members of the board approved the measure. The project is expected to be completed before the pool reopens for the 2025 season.
