Refreshments will play a delicious part of a Grandparents Tea this Saturday, Sept. 20, at Magness Library. Pre-registration is required by calling the library at 473-2428 by Thursday at 5 p.m.

Are you ready for a spot of tea?

Magness Library will be the place for light refreshments and socializing this Saturday at 10 a.m. when McMinnville Garden Club holds a Grandparents Tea.

The event is for grandparents and their grandchildren and pre-registration is required. Call the library at 473-2428 by Thursday at 5 p.m. so organizers know how much food to prepare.

“It’s a little bit of education and a whole lot of fun,” said McMinnville Garden Club member Saundra Williams. “It gives grandparents a chance to enjoy their grandchildren and the kids have such a good time.”

Characters from Beatrice Potter books will serve as the theme so expect rabbits, squirrels and kittens to be part of the décor.

“Some people may not realize Beatrice Potter was a botanist before she was an author,” said Williams. “There will be a brief presentation about her because we realize the children have a short attention span.”

Library officials will provide a few pointers on proper tea etiquette before refreshments are served. The offerings will include finger sandwiches, fruit, cupcakes, hot tea and lemonade.

Twenty people had signed up as of Tuesday morning with the library able to accommodate 50 for this special event.
