Southern rock band August Lows is performing a fundraising show at the Fairview Community Center in honor of the late Carla Cope on Friday.
The event will begin with a dinner at 5 p.m., and will be followed by a live performance by August Lows. Admission to the show is $10 and food will be separate from the admission price.
August Lows is hosting the show to raise money for Ricky Cope, to help pay for Carla’s medical expenses from her long battle with cancer. All proceeds from the show and food will go directly to Ricky and visitors are encouraged to make donations to him and their family.
Josh Moore, lead singer of August Lows, shared a bit about his connection to Carla and the Cope family.
“I’ve known Carla since I was a little kid in Fairview,” Moore said. “She worked at Fairview Market and helped watch over me during the summer when I was out of school. She lived right across the road from there and that little area is where all this music came from.”
When asked why August Lows chose to host the event in Carla’s honor, Moore stated it was due to the kindness she and her family showed him when he was younger and the love she showed to everyone in her community.
“I’ve known this family and they’re good people.” Moore said. “This is an opportunity to give back and I thought it would be good if I can take what we play with August Lows and help give back to this family. She was a good person and she cared about everyone in her community of Fairview and her kindness extended to Irving College and McMinnville.”
Moore also spoke on the kindness and quality of the workers at the Fairview Community Center who offered not only their time, but also all of the profits from the food sold at the event.
“They are some of the best people in this county.” Moore said. “They donate their time, all the time, to help out families with these benefits and they don’t take a dime. They just do it out of the kindness of their hearts.”
