Wondering how to get free school supplies to begin checking off that lengthy list? Young Men United has the answer.

A school supplies giveaway by Young Men United is this Saturday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., one of two scheduled for this weekend. Also on Saturday, Irving College Baptist Church is having a backpack giveaway from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church located at 8931 Beersheba Highway.

Young Men United is an organization aimed at making Warren County a better community through its volunteer efforts and public service projects such as providing children with supplies they will need when school begins Wednesday, Aug. 11.

“We have all the basic items that children will need when school begins,” said Young Men United president Donald Crisp. “We have pencils, paper, crayons, spiral notebooks and backpacks – things like that. Some of those school supply lists of needed items can be a bit much to purchase all at once. Sometimes parents need a little assistance. We understand that and we’d like to help.”

Young Men United holds fundraisers throughout the year in order to give back to the community and address needs.

The organization also provides meals for those who are struggling financially.

Young Men United’s Community Center is located at the intersection of Bernard Drive and Beersheba Street in the old Bernard School gym next to Ramsey Park.
