A feel-good grocery story

Warehouse Discount Groceries director Jackson Lambert hands a $200 in gift certificates to Jessica Akers, the winner of the store’s Christmas food giveaway.

Jessica Akers is the winner of Warehouse Discount Groceries contest for $200 worth of free groceries.

She’s going to share the wealth and use some of the money to help others.

“The Moose Lodge is distributing 50 food baskets to needy families on Christmas Eve,” said Akers. “I’m going to take some of this money and buy corn, beans and macaroni to put in the food boxes. It’s a great cause.”

Warehouse Discount Groceries conducted the contest through the Southern Standard’s website. After answering a couple quick questions, participants were entered into a drawing for $200 of free groceries.

“We’re looking to get people excited and this contest generated some great interest,” said Warehouse Discount Groceries director Jackson Lambert. “We’re here and doing business and we’re ready to meet all the grocery needs of the community.”

The store is a full-service grocery with an emphasis on its fresh-cut meat department. Lambert said shoppers travel from surrounding towns such as Smithville, Woodbury and Sparta to buy from the Warehouse Discount Groceries meat department.

It’s the 28th store for owner Jay Mitchell, who says he’s been very pleased with the reception during the first nine months of business.

Warehouse Discount Groceries has used the Standard for much of its publicity and that relationship will carry over into next year.

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Warehouse Discount Groceries this year and I’m very excited about 2020,” said newspaper advertising representative Leslie Zechman. “We have more promotions planned and I think it is a great and fun way to engage the community while giving something back to the store’s growing customer base.”

Warehouse Discount Groceries is located on The Strip at 835 Smithville Highway in the old Foodland Plus location.
