Applications are now available for the upcoming Warren County A&L Fair pageants.
The annual pageants are quickly approaching. The fair is scheduled for Sept. 8 through 16 this year. Pageant registration is on Aug. 17 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Warren County Admin Building in the Magnolia room. During registration, participants will need to bring their application and a picture to go in the Southern Standard if they choose to submit one. There is a $25 entry fee payable to the Warren County A&L Fair and a $10 fee for the picture to be run in the newspaper's special section.
Applications can be picked up at Upton’s Bridal, Southern Standard, Red Door or Red Door Kids. Fairest of the Fair contestants can download an application from Fairest of the Fair Facebook. Baby Show applications are available at Ashley’s Attic, Evelyn Taylor, Intrigue, Red Door and Red Door Kids, Southern Standard, Trendy Trunk, Upton’s Bridal and at the Warren County Extension Office.
Susan Burks is chairing both the Tiny Fairest and Fairest of the Fair pageants and says the pageants always draw a crowd and are a tradition in Warren County.
“The pageants are always very well attended. We have the largest fair pageants, as far as number of contestants, in the state of Tennessee. The pageants in our county are just a tradition. The Fairest of the Fair contestants enter because it is like a rite of passage their senior year. Their grandmothers were in the pageant, their mothers did the pageant and it is just something girls who are between the ages of 16 and 20 want to participate in. I think that really sets us apart,” said Burks.
On Friday, Sept. 8, the Teen Fairest of the Fair pageant will be held at 5 p.m. and the Pre-Teen Fairest of the Fair pageant will be at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Tiny Fairest of the Fair pageant will be at 5 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 10, the AAUW Baby Show will be at 2:30 p.m. On Monday, Sept. 11, the Fairest of the Fair pageant will be at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Little Fairest of the Fair pageant will be at 7 p.m.
Teen Fairest of the Fair is for girls 13-15 years of age. The Pre-Teen event is available for girls ages 10-12. Tiny Fairest of the Fair is for girls ages 4-6. Little Fairest of the Fair is for girls ages 7-9. The AAUW Fair Baby Show is for boys and girls 6-42 months old. Fairest of the Fair is for girls ages 16-20.
