A qualifying deadline looms for the elected office of Warren County Assessor of Property.
It’s the only county government office that will be on the ballot in 2020, although voters can go to the polls three times next year for offices such as McMinnville Mayor, Warren County School Board, state and federal House of Representatives, and U.S. President.
For the position of Property Assessor, residents have until Dec. 12 at noon to submit qualifying papers containing signatures of 25 registered voters in Warren County in order to be on next year’s primary ballot.
Incumbent Beth Martin is vying for her third term as Property Assessor. At this time, she has qualified to run in the Democratic Primary.
Martin ran uncontested in 2016 and was elected to her second term. At this time, she is the only individual who has thrown her hat into the ring.
The Warren County Election Commission would like to remind individuals looking to challenge Martin for the office, the deadline is at noon, not the end of the business day, a mistake that some applicants have made in the past.
Primary elections will be held March 3, 2020 to narrow the field of Democratic and Republican candidates. That date will also feature both primaries for U.S. President.
Winners of a political party’s primary election go on to represent that party during the Warren County General Election on Aug. 6. At that time, they will face any challengers running as independents.
The August election will also include three constable seats and three School Board seats, as well as State Primary Elections for the offices of State Representative in the 43rd and 47th Districts, and the 16th District State Senate, 4th District U.S. House, and for one U.S. Senate.
