A convicted sex offender faces a number of charges after he stole a woman’s tax refund, ran from the law, and then failed to report a change of address making him in violation of the state’s sexual offender registry.The man, James Scott Durham, 45, has been bound to the grand jury on charges of theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked license and violation of the state sexual offender registry.According to sheriff’s investigator Steven Carpenter, Durham took a woman’s debit card that had her tax refund on it.“He used the card three times at an ATM,” Carpenter said. “All the transactions were within minutes of one another.”The investigator said Durham drained the card dry, passing it until it was rejected due to insufficient funds. He allegedly stole $1,154 during the fraudulent transactions.In the excitement of stealing the tax refund, Durham reportedly forgot to tell his parole officer he had moved.
