Costume contest winners announced
Halloween Costume Contest - Leo Turner.jpg
Three-month-old Leo Turner, appropriately dressed as a lion, was voted the winner of the Southern Standard’s Halloween Costume Contest in his category, 0-12 years.

The votes are all in, and this year’s three winners of the Southern Standard’s Halloween Costume Contest have been decided.

Three categories were offered, 0-12 years, 13 years and over, and one reserved for pets with voting opened to the public. Once a day, voters were allowed to cast a vote for one entry in each of the offered categories to help their frightful favorites win. The public responded by logging hundreds of votes, leaving three clear winners in each division.

Southern Standard’s 2021 Halloween Costume Contest winners are as follows:

• 0-12 Years: Leo Turner, son of Angel Leck and Andrew Turner

• 13+ Years: Jacob Roper and Ashley Gudat

• Pets: Marty the dog, owned by Regina Farley

Although Leo Turner is too young at 3 months to truly enjoy his first Halloween, the adorable infant’s mother Angel Leck is excited for this year’s Halloween festivities and picked out the perfect costume for him.

“He is a Leo, since he was born in July, so it only seemed right to dress him up as a lion,” said Leck of her choice of outfit for her son. “We are all dressing up as characters from Wizard of Oz. I’ll be dressing up as Dorothy and his father, Andrew, will be Scarecrow.”

Each winner is given no tricks, only treats, in the form of $25 for their spooktacular victories.

The Southern Standard regularly holds contests online, so stay tuned for the next one by visiting our website frequently, or downloading our app available on both Apple and Android.
