Dairy Queen was the place to be on Monday as customers were treated to a free ice cream cone to celebrate the first day of spring.

Customers were treated to one free vanilla ice cream cone per person, no purchase necessary, until supplies ran out. The parking lot was packed when school let out on Monday as many made their way to Dairy Queen for the free treat.

The first day of spring doesn’t just mean you get a free cone, it also marks the spring equinox.  This is the astronomical beginning of the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere and the autumn season in the Southern Hemisphere. During the equinox, the Northern and Southern Hemisphere both receive approximately equal amounts of sunlight; neither hemisphere is tilted more toward or away from the sun than the other.

The first day of spring will always fall on either March 19, 20 or 21.
