Committees may see some changes

Changes may be coming to the county committees with departments switching and there may be a larger role for the county Correction Partnership Committee.

At the county Health and Welfare Committee meeting Thursday night Commissioner Blaine Wilcher suggested moving the Sanitation Department to the Safety and Beer Committee starting in October.

“As a committee, we need to recommend that the Sanitation Department fall under the Safety Committee and the reason why is because Health and Welfare is fixing to be involved in hopefully an expansion or new building for Animal Control. Also, we will be involved in a new building for the Health Department. So we will have a lot going on,” said Wilcher.

Currently Health and Welfare has Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center, the Health Department, and the Sanitation Department reporting to them. Safety and Beer has EMS and the Sheriff’s Department reporting to them.

“Obviously Sanitation affects Safety. Safety is probably going to be losing the jail to the County Corrections partnership like it used to be. That will actually free it up where Jackie won’t have to go to two meetings. The Safety Committee will basically cover EMS and Sanitation,” said Wilcher.

Commissioner Steve Glenn was against this change.

“I am against that,” said Glenn. “I think we need to keep him and I think this committee has done a good job with him.”

“I agree, but I know what we are about to be facing and we will probably have our hands full,” said Wilcher.

The committee passed the motion to recommend this change with Wilcher, Kasey Owens, Scott Kelly, and Philip Stout voting yes. Steve Glenn voted against it. This change will have to pass the full court before being approved.
