McMinnville officials have approved an operating budget and set the property tax rate for fiscal year 2022-23.
Final approval was given by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Tuesday for a consolidated budget that contained a beginning fund balance on July 1 of $6.8 million and a projected ending fund balance on June 30, 2023, of $6 million. The property tax rate remains unchanged at $1.84.
“I want to commend everybody, administration and the board alike, for having this passed before the deadline this year,” said McMinnville Mayor Ryle Chastain. “That’s good work everybody.”
The state recommends local governments have their annual budget approved before July 1 and submitted to the Comptroller of the Treasury for consideration within 15 days of adoption. The Comptroller’s Office determines if budgets comply with state statutes and if not, it has the authority to demand changes to bring it into compliance.
Also approved by the board was a lengthy list of items to be declared surplus and sold online.
Making the list were several mowers, several vehicles, several flat-screen TVs, speakers, doors, fire extinguishers, cash registers, cash drawers, a salt spreader, a light bar, and 22 survival packs, among many other items.
