A McMinnville man was airlifted while his wife was transported to River Park following a high-speed collision Tuesday morning in Centertown.
Robert Robinson, 67, of McMinnville was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville while his wife and passenger was transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park for her injuries following the 8:20 a.m. crash.
They were travelling outbound on New Nashville Highway on Tuesday morning when they approached the intersection of Pigeon Hill Road.
Crystal Messina, 23, was on Pigeon Hill Road and trying to cross the highway. She was travelling from the direction of Old Nashville Highway and heading north.
Messina entered the path of the Robinson vehicle which was travelling at highway speeds. The impact caused extensive front-end damage to the Robinson vehicle while causing to Messina vehicle to roll and come to rest upside down on its roof.
Messina, who is also from McMinnville, had a small child in her vehicle. Messina declined to be transported to a medical facility and told state trooper Joseph VanBommel she would seek medical attention on her own.
Trooper VanBommel pointed out that everyone involved in the crash was properly restrained and the child was in a child safety seat. He said that likely served to minimize injuries.
Messina was given a citation for failure to yield.
