McMinnville Police Department wants to remind motorists of parking restrictions during the Christmas parade this weekend.
The parade is set for this Saturday, Dec. 1. Police will be restricting parking on Main Street from 12 to 4:30 p.m. The parade is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. Main Street will be cleared of parked vehicles ahead of time.
McMinnville Police Major Mike Lane says the department does not allow vehicles on Main Street for the enjoyment of onlookers and the safety of everyone.
“We do this for safety purposes,” said Lane. “It also allows people to see the parade as it passes without vehicles obstructing their view. Thankfully, we’ve never had to tow anyone’s car.”
Before the department started restricting parking, vehicles would line the street on both sides and people would have to get in between the parked vehicles or into the street in order to watch the parade.
No parking will be allowed on Main Street from Chancery Street to just past McMinnville Fire Department. The parking restriction will include Court Square.
Spectators are encouraged to park behind the Chamber of Commerce, behind Hoover & Son Insurance, beside the Farmers Market, and in the public parking lot on Spring Street.
The parade lines up at McMinnville Civic Center beginning at 12 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m. runs its traditional route down Main Street. It ends at the water tower beside the Farmers Market.
