Christmas parade to get Grinched

This year’s McMinnville Christmas Parade promises to be greener than usual as The Grinch has been announced as the parade theme.

Here’s a hint about this year’s theme for the 2019 McMinnville Christmas Parade. He’s devious and known for his anti-holiday spirit, as cuddly as a cactus and lives in a cave with his pet dog.

That’s right, everyone’s favorite green Dr. Seuss character is back. The Grinch was also the parade theme in 2011, but this year’s selection is based on the recent animated adaptation of the beloved holiday classic.

The parade will take place Saturday, Dec. 7. While the lineup starts at noon, the parade officially begins at 2:30 p.m. running from the Civic Center down Main Street to Colville Street.

As for some of the key Christmas Parade rules to follow, nothing can be thrown in any form from a parade float. Also, no alcoholic beverages and there is only one Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and they will be riding on the last float in the parade. For a full list of guidelines, visit the city’s website.

Entries will be vying for cash prizes totaling $1,575. There will be eight categories including People’s Choice Award with a prize of $200.

The deadline to enter is Nov. 20. Entry forms can be picked up and submitted at Three Star Mall. The cost is $30. No entry forms will be accepted after deadline or the day of the parade.
