When classmates convene for their 50th anniversary class reunion, it’s a sure bet lots of memories are shared and stories retold. Many laughs and some tears were shared when the Central High School class of 1967 got together at Johnny “B” Farms in Rock Island.
“Our reunion committee worked tirelessly planning every aspect of the celebration,” said Lynette Moore. “It was a special evening, and we were very pleased with the attendance.”
A delicious buffet-style dinner was served, complete with assorted desserts, with guests seated at tables covered in blue or gold tablecloths. Keeping with the school colors, blue and white flowers were on each table. Music was provided by DJ Rocky McKnight, and a welcome was extended by class president Frank Collier. He also recognized veterans, police officers firefighters, EMT and first responders in the group.
Former eighth-grade English teacher Sharon Cummings was the guest speaker, sharing stories with the group. Cummings is an accomplished author, and attended the event with her husband Francis.
A video was presented by classmate Richard Myers. The video was the result of interviewing teachers Robert Case, Linda Driver Woods, Eben Gilbert and Pedro Paz, as well as school secretary Barbara Grissom.
A memorial to the 30 deceased class members was conducted with the lighting of a candles in front of a photo of the classmate.
Reunion weekend activities included the showing of the movie “Grease” at the historic Park Theater, and a girls-only breakfast at Oasis Church. A display of Bulldog memorabilia decorated a window at The Heritage Museum featuring Central High School yearbooks, a cheerleading uniform and letter jacket, the marching band’s drum and a trombone.
