Last Saturday during the Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music, Main Street McMinnville announced a new series featuring classic films on the big screen of the Park Theater.
The series features a classic film quarterly with screenings in May, August and October. Main Street’s organization committee chose two of the films based on their timeless performances, exceptional artistic quality, and their popularity as cinematic classics. Here’s the lineup:
• May 9 – “High Noon” featuring Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly
• Aug. 23 – People’s Choice (more details below)
• Oct. 11 – “Rebecca” (1939) featuring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine
Main Street McMinnville left one slot undecided and invites the community to vote on one of the following classic films below:
• “The Thin Man” (1934)
• “Psycho” (1960)
• “Cool Hand Luke” (1967)
• “Harvey” (1950)
• “Gone With the Wind” (1939)
The film with the most votes will be shown during the August screening date. Individuals can vote at the Main Street office with a paper ballot or online via: www.surveymonkey.com/r/7H32J9T. The deadline to cast your vote is Thursday, Feb. 28.
“We are inspired by the burgeoning interest in theater arts in McMinnville,” said Main Street McMinnville executive director Katie Kemezis. “Our new arts programming will enrich our community with exceptional artistic performances in our historic Park Theater to inspire our blossoming dramatic artists, nourish their passion and encourage their craft.”
