Car seat check to be offered Friday
Celebrate the fact your childs car seat is installed properly. A free checkpoint is this Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gilley Pool.

A free child seat safety checkpoint will be offered at Gilley Pool this Friday morning.
“We thought this was a good place and a good day to do it,” said McMinnville Police Lt. Mark Mara. “It’s hot. People go to Gilley Pool to cool off and they take their children.”
McMinnville Police Department, McMinnville Fire Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Department will be offering this event. All child safety seat inspections in the community are open to the public and done by individuals who are certified to check for proper installation.
The service is optional, but motorists with child seats are urged to attend.
“We are still finding only one out of every 10 car seats are installed properly,” said Mara. “I can understand why. Before I went through training to offer these inspections, I thought my child’s car seat was installed properly. It wasn’t. We’re also finding some car seats have expired. It’s about 15 minutes out of your time to make sure your children are property secured. It’s worth it.”
The department will be giving away a free ice cream coupon from Dairy Queen to individuals who pass the test. Those that fail will not be cited.
“This isn’t about writing citations,” said Mara. “I can’t stress that enough. This is about keeping children safe.”
