Rodney Boyd celebrated his retirement from McMinnville Electric System at a reception Aug. 29 at the Warren County Chamber of Commerce building.
Representatives from the Industrial Development Board, TVA, MES, Middletown C Industrial Development Association and the Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association paid tribute to Boyd’s hard work and spoke of his immense value to the Warren County community and beyond.
Boyd is a well accomplished member of the Warren County community who has dedicated his time to multiple businesses and charities. He is a member of multiple company boards, including the American Public Power Association, Tennessee Valley Public Power Association and the Tennessee Municipal Power Association.
Boyd also served as chairman of the Southeast Safety Committee, president of Georgia’s Department of Labor and Employers Committee, president of the Dalton Noon Lions Club a member of the Tennessee Governor’s Alternative Fuel Council, the 2007 Department of Energy Bio-energy Peer Review Council and he has also contributed to the Warren County community as chairman of the Warren County Chamber of Commerce.
Cameron Sexton, Speaker of the state House of Representatives, spoke on the professionalism and capability Boyd showed throughout his career in an official proclamation made in conjunction with Tennessee State Representative Paul Sherrell on Aug. 27.
“Throughout his esteemed career Rodney Boyd has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability and integrity winning the unbridled respect and admiration of his colleagues and communities alike,” Sexton said.
Wendy Sneed of the Industrial Development Board said Boyd has caused a notable improvement across Warren County.
“If you look at McMinnville and the outline of Warren County and the changes we’ve had over the past 24 years you can tell what MES has meant to this community,” Sneed said. “We are extremely blessed to have had you here.”
Boyd spoke at the end of the ceremony offering thanks to all the previous speakers and encouraging members of the Warren County community to embrace his replacement, Brittany Davis.
“So many of my friends are here today and I’m blown away by how far some of you have traveled to be here today,” Boyd said. “I’m extremely honored to have been a part of this. Words can’t say how I feel right now. Except to say there is a new chapter that’s starting at McMinnville Electric System.
“Years ago this community embraced me and my family, and now we have a new person this community needs to embrace, Ms. Brittany Davis. I am looking forward to seeing what Brittany does with McMinnville Electric System. I am so thankful that you took time out of your day to be here with me today.”
