For some, being late to work means a call to the office, or even lost wages. For a tardy worker at Scenic Hill Nursery, his showing up late nearly got him shot. The worker, Joey Ray Ceballos, claims his boss, Anastacio Martinez Mendoza, 48, who is a foreman at the business, took his tardiness a little too seriously when he showed up late for work this past week at the nursery on Hildreth Road.“I spoke to Mr. Ceballos who stated he was digging balls when his foreman confronted him about coming to work late,” said sheriff’s deputy Ben Cannon in his report. “Mr. Mendoza asked Mr. Ceballos if he ‘wanted to try him’ and grabbed him and pointed a silver and black pistol in his face.”The victim said his foreman then fired the gun, prompting him to run away.“Mr. Ceballos ran through the field with Mr. Mendoza running after him to a neighboring house where he called 911,” Cannon noted. The victim produced a witness who reportedly saw the incident.
