Bobby Ray Memorial Elementary School has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority to help with energy and classrooms upgrades.

The grant was part of $2.3 million in funding announced by the TVA this week through its School Uplift program. According to the utility, the program will assist the 98 school recipients to save an estimated 5.5 GWh of energy.

“TVA and local power company partners are committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve through School Uplift,” Monika Beckner, vice president of TVA Energy Services and Programs said in announcing the awards. “By reducing energy costs, we’re making more funds available for education and creating a better learning environment for students and teachers that helps give every child the opportunity to succeed.”

According to the TVA, it has invested over $8 million in 323 schools since the School Uplift program began in 2021. The program aims to offer energy efficiency training and reduce energy costs to improve learning environments.

The TVA said it is hoping to add 120 new schools in next year’s program. Both public and private schools in the TVA’s service area are eligible to participate.
