A man will have to pay for damage he caused to a police car but only after he finishes serving 30 days behind bars for resisting arrest.The defendant, Barry Barton, 52, was directed by General Sessions Judge Bill Locke to make $377 restitution to the Police Department for damage caused by kicking the patrol car while he was being arrested. He was also ordered to serve 30 days of a six-month sentence for resisting arrest.Patrolman Eddie Colwell responded to Beersheba Street to answer a public drunk call. He found Barton walking through the NAPA parking lot.“He had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his person and was unsteady on his feet,” the patrolman revealed, noting he and detective Marty Cantrell attempted to arrest him.“He pulled his arms away and would not allow the officers to handcuff him,” Colwell said.
