Over $60,000 will be cruisin’ into the Meals on Wheels bank account after a revved-up donation from Back to the Strip.

Final numbers have been generated and Meals on Wheels is receiving over 5,000 pounds of food in addition to the $60,000 monetary donation courtesy of this year’s event.

“It was a great day,” said Chris Terry, one of the Back to the Strip organizers. “It started with the cruise-in at Tim’s Motors where we had over 200 vehicles and it carried over to riding The Strip. I haven’t heard a bad thing about it. We raised a lot of money for a good cause and everyone seemed to be having a good time.”

The event was held Saturday, May 1.

Crowds of people brought lawn chairs to line The Strip and watch classic cars drive by. The street was filled with everything from vintage cars dating back to the 1920s to a bulky military vehicle painted in camouflage green.

Back to the Strip has become the premier fundraiser for Meals on Wheels, a nonprofit which delivers food to shut-ins. Terry pointed out Back to the Strip was able to donate $8,600 to Meals on Wheels last year without even holding an event.
