Three new signs have been placed for Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center.
“I want to thank everyone who helped make this change possible,” said Warren County Animal Control and Adoption Center director Kim Pettrey. “We, the girls and I, truly appreciate what it means because it’s more than just a few signs. It’s a commitment that we’ll try to find homes for as many animals as we can. This is about the animals. It always has been.”
Helping make the change take place were 21 members of the full Warren County Commission who approved the name change in March, as well as those individuals who helped financially make the signs for placement.
The two signs that were placed on the gate and building were donated by Grow and Learn Daycare. G.L. Wilcher built the frame and mount for the sign on the building. Steve Davis, the owner of Davis Signs, painted the sign at the entrance to 169 Paws Trail. Davis Signs and Helping Animals of Warren County (HAWC), a nonprofit group geared toward helping animal shelters and rescue groups in Warren County, split the cost of that sign.
Commissioner Blaine Wilcher proposed the name change in February during a Health and Welfare Committee meeting due to the facility taking in 856 animals in 2015 and of those, 710 were adopted or sent to rescue groups. The name change, said Wilcher, would reflect the facility’s adoption efforts.
A dedication ceremony was held Tuesday evening. In attendance were County Executive Herschel Wells, Commissioners Blaine Wilcher, Michael Shane Wilcher and Carolyn Miller, Alea Davis, Hollie Cox, Jan Saylors, Pettrey and her staff, Deitra Kester and Brandi Bouldin.
