911 may be out Tuesday

Some may have difficulty accessing 911 from their cellphones on the night of Tuesday, Dec. 1.

For a five-hour period, issues may occur.

Frontier Communications is replacing fiber lines that were recently damaged, says E-911 director Chuck Haston.

“The fiber lines are outside of Warren County, but do play a part in routing 911 calls from cellphones to Warren County’s 911 Center,” said Haston. “The replacement is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. Tuesday night and last approximately 5 hours. If anyone receives a fast-busy signal when dialing 911 from a cellphone please hang up and dial one of the three numbers: 931-668-7000, 931-668-7001 or 931-815-3996.”

Ben Lomand Connect landline customers should not be impacted.

Haston was notified Friday of the work and its potential disruption on using 911 to call for emergency assistance.

“This just affects calls to 911, according to Frontier,” said Haston. “This was dropped into our laps today. We are hoping that this doesn’t affect us, but if people do need to call 911 from their cellphone and they receive a fast-busy signal, we wanted to get the alternate numbers out there.”

Again, Frontier will be working on its lines beginning at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1. For approximately five hours, cellphone users who receive a fast-busy signal when calling 911 need to hang up and call either 668-7000, 668-7001 or 815-3996.
