Christmas at the Library will be held at Magness Library on Monday, Dec. 22. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m.
McMinnville Housing Authority director Lisa Harvey started the concert and the proceeds are split between the library and the activity center. The center offers homework assistance, afternoon snacks, supervised activities, and organized play to school-age children who live in public housing.
Musicians who will be performing various types of Christmas music are Joe Harvey, Lucy Haston, Griffin Winton, Christine Grayson, Lee Carr, MidDay Farm Report, Scott Camp, John Harvey, Nicky Bouldin, and Scott Harvey.
According to Magness Library director Brad Walker, the concert has become a popular event in the community.
“We have already sold 33 tickets,” said Walker. “It sells out really quick. This is the sixth year for the concert. It offers a variety of music and is very enjoyable. Everyone has a ball. It’s a big Christmas event in McMinnville.”
The Grinch has shown up during past events and was a big hit, says Walker.
“Kevin Harvey performs the Grinch. He doesn’t come dressed as the Grinch, but he sounds just like it. When he attends, it’s always a big hit. Everybody loves it. I thought they were playing a recording, but it’s really Kevin singing.”
According to Steve Harvey, who is helping organize the event, Kevin will be in attendance and jazz will return.
“We are bring back jazz this year,” said Steve. “Scott Camp is coming. He, Kevin and John Harvey do Charlie Brown music. We are tickled to death about that. Scott hasn’t been in town for several years, so we are super excited to have him back.”
While the center and the library split the proceeds, everything goes toward helping children.
“We try to use all the money from this for children’s books,” said Walker. “We have replaced a lot of our books in the last couple of years in the children’s part of the library thanks to this concert. Everyone should join us for a great night of entertainment.”
Light refreshments will be served.
Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at Magness Library. Seats are limited. Call 473-2428 for tickets.
