Library exhibit honors veterans

Magness Library has established a new exhibit to honor veterans. It will be available the day after Memorial Day and remain up for two to three weeks.
“We had quite a few pictures of veterans in the archives,” said library director Brad Walker. “We wanted to make a new exhibit of those for Memorial Day to honor veterans. We already have the pictures up on the walls but some of the people in them are not identified. We are working to get them identified.”
The pictures are from the Beasley-Brady-Hughes Photographic Museum and Archives that were taken by Anthia Hughes, Willie Hughes and Joe H. Beasley and are currently being housed at the library after being donated last year.
“Some of these pictures are extremely interesting,” said Walker. “There are some portraits. Some are couples and others are family pictures. I think some of them are wedding pictures. There are some buddy snapshots by servicemen.”
The exhibit will include soldiers in uniform from World War I, World War II, Vietnam and Korean wars. Walker says identification has been difficult and help from the community may be needed.
Magness Library is closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. The exhibit will be on the second floor in the library’s auditorium.
