Kids get back to nature

Rock Island State Park held its second annual Junior Ranger Camp this week. The event offered youngsters a look into the great outdoors with days dedicated to nature, survival, fishing and canoeing, crafts and games.The free camp was offered Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the park. Tuesday’s event was about survival and taught by camp leaders park ranger David England, camp host John Vaughn, Katie Wisniewski, and Shannon Forney.“Today is survival day,” said England.
