A local man was killed Monday afternoon when his car crashed head-on into a brick mailbox on Manchester Highway.
The victim, Jimmy C. Turner, 65, was pronounced dead on arrival at River Park Hospital after being transported to the facility by Warren County Ambulance Service.
According to highway patrolman Ronnie Simmons, the accident happened just after noon Monday on Manchester Highway (Highway 55) in Morrison. A preliminary investigation revealed Turner was heading west, away from McMinnville, in the direction of Coffee County when his 1987 Volvo veered off the right side of the highway.
After traveling a few yards along the shoulder, the car slammed head-on into a large, brick mailbox, inflicting heavy front-end damage to the vehicle.
An airlift was requested when first-responders arrived. However, Turner succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Trooper Simmons said it is unclear what caused Turner to leave the road and hit the large mailbox.
