Historic Preservation to present awards Thursday

Invitations are going out for the 2013 Historic Preservation Awards to be held at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall on Main Street this Thursday, May 9, at 4:30 p.m. “We are trying to keep the winners under wraps,” said event organizer Mary Robbins. “We have sent out VIP invitations. If you get one, it might be a good idea to attend.”The awards banquet is presented by Warren County Heritage Alliance and Main Street McMinnville to honor organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions to the preservation of the history and culture of McMinnville and Warren County during the past year.Thursday’s program schedule will be as follows:• Tour of the First Presbyterian Church, a building on National Register of Historic Places, by Charles “Shot” Nunley at 4:30 p.m. • Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served at 5 p.m. • Presentation of the Main Street Photography Project by Bill Luton at 5:30 p.m.• Historic Preservation Awards presentation by Jimmy Haley, president of Warren County Heritage Alliance, at 6 p.m. Along with the Volunteer Spirit Award, being given are preservation awards for Musical Heritage, African-American Heritage, Landmark Property, Heritage Tourism, and Continuing Education.
