Magness Library is inviting the public to a reception tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the library for the premiere unveiling of a new Civil War exhibit by MTSU history student Matthew Hibdon. The exhibit is called, “McMinnville in the Civil War: Life under Occupation as Observed by L. Virginia French” and begins Saturday, Dec. 31.After the presentation, attendees can participate in a pilgrimage to the High Street Cemetery to read passages from French’s famous Civil War journal to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Murfreesboro.Hibdon, a Warren County High School graduate and MTSU senior, developed the presentation as part of his honors thesis at the university, and says the exhibit is designed to bring a part of Warren County history back to life.“If weather permits we’re going to go down to see the grave of Capt. D.C. Spurlock and lay some flowers on his grave because she always went to visit his grave,” Hibdon said. “Then we might go down to her grave too.
