Morrison Ruritan has named Charles Hefner as its 2014 Citizen of the Year. He will be honored during a banquet March 29 at 6 p.m.
Hefner is a life-long resident of Morrison. He has been the sole proprietor of Morrison Garage for 40 years and attends Morrison Methodist Church.
Nominees received for the recognition were judged based on their church work, community activities or public service, or a combination of the three. Among the comments about Hefner from the nominations, it was said he “always asks about the sick in the community,” “directs Ruritan to those he knows who are in need,” “does nice deeds for his neighbors,” and “seldom misses church on Sunday.”
Hefner is the son of Houston and Nettie Lou Hefner, who have lived in Morrison for 56 years. He has two brothers, Joe and John, and lives with his companion, Barbara Elrod, all of Morrison.
During the banquet, Ruritan will name its Ruritan of the Year. The individual will be selected by a secret ballot of club members and will be presented the Arry Youngblood Memorial Award.
Individuals wanting to attend the awards banquet have until March 26 to RSVP by calling Mike Holland at 939-2540.
