Demetria Hale is pictured in Washington, D.C. after completing the Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 25. Her time was 6 hours, 39 minutes.
Not even a devastating house fire that displaced her family and destroyed most of her belongings could keep Demetria Hale from training for her first marathon.Hale recently flew to Washington, D.C. to compete in the 40th running of the Marine Corps Marathon and was one of more than 23,000 runners who successfully completed the race.“I wanted this to be my first marathon because I was running it for Chaz and Jessica Allen,” said Hale. “They are good friends and I wanted to say thank you to Chaz in that way.”The Allens are now Warren County residents after getting a specially made, handicap-accessible home built for them on Crisp Springs Road. Chaz Allen lost both his legs in January 2011 when he stepped on an explosive device in Afghanistan.
