The eight, nine or 10 beers consumed by a drunk driver will cost him 47 days in jail and nearly $2,000 in fines.
The man, Jimmy Gunter, 46, of Spencer entered guilty pleas before General Sessions Judge Larry Ross to charges of second-offense DUI, reckless endangerment and driving on a revoked license. He was directed to serve 47 days of an 11-month, 29-day sentence and must pay $1,967. He also had his driver license revoked for two years.
The charges were brought after a deputy saw Gunter driving a Toyota pickup on Sparta Street on the wrong side of the road. When Gunter was pulled over, the suspect told the officer he had drunk “eight, nine or 10 beers.” The officer also saw a couple dozen alcohol containers in the vehicle. Gunter had a prior DUI conviction in 2008.
