A man who fled deputies on a stolen motorcycle has been bound to the grand jury. The suspect, Charles Brandon Vanatta, 31, was bound to the grand jury by General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on charges of theft, evading arrest and driving on a suspended license. His charges come after sheriff’s deputy Jared Jacobs tried to pull Vanatta over on Bybee Branch Road after noticing he was riding a motorcycle that did not have registration attached to it.“He fled the scene through numerous fields and roadways,” Jacobs recalled, noting another deputy also tried stopping the motorcycle further down Bybee Branch Road.Jacobs said the motorcycle was found a short time later at a residence on Shelbyville Road. It was then found out the motorcycle was stolen and Vanatta had a suspended license, taken because he failed to pay traffic citations. The chase on the stolen motorcycle was one of three crimes for which Vanatta was bound this past week. Lawmen say he was caught in the act of trying to steal scrap metal from Womack Transportation on Morrison Highway.
