A man who cried wolf claiming he was run over when he found himself in the middle of a drag race faces charges of filing a false report. The suspect, Edward Leon Fowler, 35, is charged with filing a false report and disorderly conduct. The count is a felony and carries two to four years in prison since his claim led to a mobilization of law enforcement and emergency medical responders.Fowler’s folly began when he called 911 and claimed he had been struck by a white Mustang that was drag racing with another vehicle on Newt McKnight Road which runs off Short Mountain Road.“EMS and fire department responded and could not find any physical signs of injury,” said sheriff’s deputy Newman Ford in his warrant against Fowler. “There was no physical evidence at the scene that the alleged accident even took place.”Newman noted the potentially seriousness of such an accident, had it really happened, prompted emergency responders to put LifeFlight helicopter on standby in case it was needed to evacuate the injured man.“His story changed several times while he was being questioned,” deputy Newman recalled.
