Four spots available in city alderman race

With four McMinnville alderman spots up for grabs, the waiting game continues to determine who will vie for the offices that could tip the balance of power in the city.Three candidates have officially qualified for the race, those being constable Dennis Taylor, local businessman Jason W. Gross, and former alderman Jimmy Bonner Sr. Three more have qualifying papers including Benjamin Foust, Ben Newman and incumbent alderman Everett Brock. They have until Aug. 16 at noon to qualify.The wide-open election comes as incumbents Rick Barnes and Clair Cochran have announced they will not seek re-election. And, incumbent alderman Junior Medley has announced he intends to resign because he is moving to Viola.It means four of the city’s six alderman posts will be up for election, with Brock being the sole incumbent seeking office if he decides to qualify.
