Food drive aims to support local seniors

March is National Nutrition Month. The Area Agency on Aging and Disability from the Upper Cumberland Development District is in the process of holding a canned food drive to support the aging population in Warren County.
The nearly month-long drive started last year after the organization was made aware of a strong need by senior citizens in Warren County for food.
Fran Davis, a family caregiver with the agency, says the canned food drive fills a need in the area.
“Tennessee ranks second in the nation for senior hunger,” Davis said. “The Area Agency on Aging and Disability is making an effort to help alleviate part of these needs in Warren County with this food drive. The Canned Food Drive will help support seniors in your area, many who are isolated and homebound, and could use your help.”
The AAAD is a department of the Upper Cumberland Development District that serves 14 counties in the Upper Cumberland.
A donation box is located at United Grocery Outlet (UGO) at 722 New Smithville Highway.
“All canned food donations are appreciated,” said Davis. “Also, we would like peanut butter/ cracker combinations and snack type food.”
The food drive continues until March 27. All food collected will be distributed to needy senior citizens in Warren County in April. For additional information, please contact Fran Davis at (931) 476-4119.
