A Smyrna family says someone killed their 10-month-old Siberian husky by hanging the dog from a tree.
Juanita Phariss told The Daily News Journal her 18-year-old daughter found the dog, named Allison, on Friday afternoon after the family returned home from work and school.
Someone had wrapped Allison's 50-foot chain around a tree branch and hoisted her into the air. Phariss said she took the dog down before her younger children could see her.
She said her 14-year-old daughter, Amanda, who suffers from the chronic lung disease cystic fibrosis, was especially close to the dog.
The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
Phariss said she no longer feels safe in her neighborhood. She is keeping her other dog inside and escorting her children to their school bus stop.
