LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas judge has dismissed a lawsuit from Bernie Sanders supporters that accused the Nevada State Democratic Party of blocking them from running for party office.
The Las Vegas Sun reported Judge Ronald Israel tossed the case on Friday, saying the courts wouldn't interfere in a dispute within the party unless there was a compelling reason to do so.
The lawsuit alleged Party Chair Roberta Lange and executive director Zach Zaragoza denied their applications to run for the party's executive board because they missed an April 25 deadline.
The plaintiffs said a document on final election rules stated the deadline as April 29.
The state party called the lawsuit frivolous and said Democrats needed to unite so they can focus on keeping Donald Trump out of the White House.
