Eastside Elementary School inducted three new members into its Hall of Fame, the second class to be honored with the distinction by the school’s Student Council.
Inducted in the class of 2013 as an honorary educator was Joe Wright. He was a teacher at Eastside School for 30 years, from 1975 to 2005.
“I was surprised and honored,” said Wright. “After being retired for eight years, I didn’t think anyone remembered me. My last fourth-grade class is graduating this year. No one knows me any more, so I was shocked and honored.”
Joining Wright was Linda Collier. She was also inducted as an honorary educator after serving as a teacher at Eastside and later instructional coordinator.
Former student Bailey Barnes was selected as an honorary alumnus inductee. He went to Eastside School and served as the first chief justice of the Student Council.
Student Council sponsor Jason Gann says each of these individuals were assets to Eastside.
“We are thankful for their work, and we are happy to induct them into the Hall of Fame,” Gann said.
The Hall of Fame was started by Eastside Elementary School’s Student Council in 2012 to recognize outstanding teachers and students with the goal of inducting two educators and one student each year.
A banquet was held Tuesday at the school. Along with an awards presentation, a slide show was offered and dinner was served.
