Early voting began Friday for the Aug. 2 election which will elect a new General Sessions Judge and Property Assessor, as well decide who advances in the state elections.Early voting will be available to all registered voters from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. week days, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays until July 28. Voting will be held, as always, in the early voting room in the basement of the county government building on Locust Street. Thus far, voter turnout has been light.“Voters need to make sure to bring a photo ID because of the new law that requires it,” said election administrator Donna Smith.
