A Rock Island resident made his first court appearance Tuesday on the charge of rape of a child.
Joseph Dupuie, 56, has reportedly confessed to the crime, according to the warrant for his arrest.
Dupuie faces the charge for sexual acts involving an 11-year-old boy. The crime reportedly took place at Dupuie’s home in September.
“After being Mirandized, Dupuie confessed,” the arrest warrant states.
Law enforcement officials were contacted by the Depart-ment of Child-ren Services about sexual contact between Dupuie and the 11-year-old male juvenile. Dupuie reportedly had access to the boy because he is a close friend of the boy’s father.
During his interview with investigator Travis Thaxton, Dupuie reportedly admitted the sexual encounter took place in the kitchen of his Rock Island home.
Dupuie was arrested last Thursday, Oct. 28, and remains held at Warren County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Dupuie was formally presented with the charges against him Tuesday morning during his arraignment and assigned the Public Defender’s Office for his defense. His next court appearance is set for Dec. 7.
