Several hundred community leaders and residents gathered Friday evening to commemorate the official open house of the completed Dibrell School renovation and expansion project.
Rounding out the group were representatives from school system architect Cockrill Design & Planning, which designed the spacious, visually attractive and functional addition to the school.
School principal Robbie Hitchcock presented an emotional introduction and rundown of the additions to the facility, including a new cafeteria, library, gym, administrative offices and 16 classrooms.
Also on hand was Director of Schools Dr. Jerry Hale, who lauded the administration, teachers and students for their patience while the new wing and facilities were constructed.
“The students of Dibrell got what they deserved. They deserved to get this school,” Hale said. “This is a wonderful facility and I am pleased to be here tonight to celebrate its completion.”
School Board chairman Scott Holmes thanked everyone involved in the project, including board members, county commissioners and those involved in its construction.
“This facility will serve us well into the future,” said Holmes, noting that despite some of the challenges along the way, in the end it was all about providing the best education possible to the children of the Dibrell community.
