A local father was injured on the golf course Sunday night when he was run over by his daughter who was behind the wheel of their golf cart.
The man, Jay Slatton, 51, was airlifted from the first tee at McMinnville Country Club by LifeFlight helicopter and was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.
According to sheriff’s department reports, Slatton and his family were enjoying a late afternoon round of golf at the local course when the incident happened. Slatton was strolling along the fairway with his wife, while their 7-year-old daughter was trailing behind in a golf cart.
At some point, the child became distracted by a bee and hit the accelerator to the golf cart in her panic.
The golf cart, with the child behind the wheel, struck Mr. Slatton causing the head and back injuries that required his airlift.
