Cub Scouts beautify Dibrell

Cub Scout Troop 423 offered a helping hand to Dibrell School’s new visitor entrance. The boys spent one week landscaping in an effort to beautify.
“It looked bad,” said Cub Scout master Michael Horton of the landscape condition at Dibrell before work began. “We wanted to help improve its appearance.”
After obtaining permission from the school, members cleared the area and added weed barrier, mulch and various plants that were donated by Turner & Sons Nursery, BRC in Depot Bottom, and Day Lily Nursery.
Labor was provided by Horton, Yvonne Christopher and Jessica Wakefield, as well as cub scouts J.T. Walls, Casey Christopher, Carol Parris, Nathaniel Womack, Samuel Horton, Hunter Birch, Blaine Gilley, Evan Womack, Junior Manning, Alexander Aramburo, Hayden Jones, Benjamin Horton, Jacoby Blake and Joe English.
“Everything we used was donated while the troop provided the labor,” said Horton. “I am very proud of my troop. We had 100 percent participation. Every member showed up and everyone helped.”
Doing service projects together is one way Cub Scouts keep their promise "to help other people." While scouts are encouraged to do their best to help others every day, a group service project is a bigger way to help people, learn to work as a team, and do something good in the community, Horton said.
The project began April 26 and was finished the first week in May.
