WINCHESTER, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say rescue crews have freed a man who injured his back, pelvis and wrist when he fell in a cave in southern Tennessee.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office tells WRCB-TV in Chattanooga that the 51-year-old Huntsville, Ala., man had been trapped in Sinking Cove Cave since Sunday afternoon and has broken bones. The office said Monday night that crews had gotten him out.
Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Chris Guess said the man, whose name was not immediately released, was about 2,000 feet underground and had fallen some 15 to 20 feet.
Sheriff Tim Fuller says the cave's opening is very low and narrow. Crews had to cut through rock to reach the man.
The caver is being taken to a medical center for treatment.
