County teen pregnancy rate ninth in state

Warren County has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the state -- with Van Buren County claiming the top spot by a wide margin.Warren County has the ninth highest teen pregnancy rate in Tennessee with a rate of 32.4 per 1,000 females ages 15 to 17. Van Buren County has the top rate at 54.3.The figures were released Thursday by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office. They show Warren County’s rate has climbed the past two years, going from 24.5 in 2011, to 26.5 in 2012, to 32.4 in 2013.As a result of having a teen pregnancy rate exceeding 19.5 per 1,000 females ages 15 to 17, the Warren County School System is required by state law to teach a family life education course.
